Tour To The State Tretiakov Gallery
The State Tretyakov Gallery is the most important museum of Russian fine art in the world. Its story begins in 1892, when Pavel Mikhailovich Tretyakov presented his collection of artworks by Russian Artists to common people by opening the museum, named in his honour. He was building his collection since 1856 and it included famous Russian artists of his own time. Later the exposition expanded significantly, embracing best artworks of Russian artists to the date: in the Gallery you will always find permanent and contemporary exhibitions.
The building where the gallery is located was built in 1902, and it's facade was designed by Viktor Vasnetsov, which makes the building an interesting object of art on its own. During its existence the gallery took over several nearby buildings to accommodate its ever-expanding collection of Russian fine arts.
The Tretyakov Gallery's collection includes around 150 000 paintings and sculptures created by famous Russian artists through centuries: works range in date from 11th to 20th century. You will see the stunning Trinity by Andrey Rublev, world-famous Black Square by Kazimir Malevich and monumental Composition VII by Vasiliy Kandinsky.
