Tour To The New Jerusalem Monastery
The New Jerusalem Monastery (also known as Voskresensky Monastery) is a unique place related to Russian Orthodox Church. It was founded in 1656 as a residence of Patriarch Nikon and it is a reproduction of the Holy Land in Jerusalem. It is standing on the bank of the river Istra, and first thing you see when you arrive here is this magnificent view of the complex standing on the hill above the river.
Center of its architecture ensemble is the Resurrection Cathedral, which is absolutely identical to the Cathedral in Jerusalem. Complex also includes Church of the Holy Trinity, walls and towers, Patriarch Nikon's abode, gardens and much more. You will see the main buildings of the monastery - the Rotunda of the Holy Sepulcher, inside which is Edicule - a cave, symbolizing a place where Jesus was buried, where he was raised.
During the tour you will learn about history of the Monastery, how it was built, how it was occupied and ransacked by the German Army and how it was recovered and returned to the Orthodox Church.
